Salvinia natans is a floating plant. Compared to other floating plants, Salvinia does not have long roots reaching into the water column. The leaves are 0.5 to 2.5 cm in size. This small plant can form a thick mat covering the entire top of the tank. If this happens, some of them will have to be removed because they will block light from reaching the plants at lower levels. Do not let Salvinia create a thick layer on the surface for a long time. It can result in oxygen depletion in the water column by reducing the gas exchange. It is not good for your fish if you don't have any aeration in the tank. Suitable for aquariums with an open-top aquariums or with good ventilation, otherwise the leaves will dry out. These plants do not like being poured with water.
