Elodea Densa is an excellent choice for beginners and those who prefer low-maintenance aquatic plants. Its fast growth rate is influenced by lighting intensity and the availability of mineral nutrients in the water. If minerals are lacking, the plant will continue to grow but its leaves may turn light green or transparent, and new stems will be noticeably thinner.
Key Characteristics:
Self-cleaning properties: It helps purify water and suppresses harmful bacterial growth.
Water preferences: It thrives in clean water but reacts poorly to very soft water. In stagnant or old water with insufficient lighting, it may yellow and eventually die.
Temperature tolerance: Prefers cooler water (5 - 26°C), making it suitable for both aquariums and ponds.

Important Information for Shrimp and Mollusc Keepers
Elodea Densa is not recommended for shrimp tanks due to its preference for fertiliser-rich environments, which can harm delicate species like shrimp and molluscs. Greenhouse-grown plants are often treated with concentrated fertilisers to accelerate growth.
If You Still Wish to Use Elodea Densa:
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse plants under running water to remove fertiliser residues.
Test with One Stem: Add one stem to the aquarium and observe the shrimp. If they swim erratically or show unusual behaviour, remove the plant immediately and place it in fresh, dechlorinated water for 48 hours.
Repeat the Test: After 48 hours, rinse the plant again and repeat the test. If shrimp behave normally, you can gradually add more stems, while continuing to observe.
Soaking Period: Soak plants for at least 7 days, rinsing them daily to ensure all fertiliser residues are removed.
